QLD ELECTRICITY SCANDAL: small businesses held to ransom

Dear Mr Premier of Queensland

Is Qld a state that loathes small business?   I am simply asking the question as the entire problem of Electricity Price Gouging is destroying family, lives and businesses.

We are getting a few of these and its no joke!  We suggest you offer this small business owner immediate relief.  Your limits as to business classification are too low and your limits to Energy OMBUDSMAN's service are too high.  Please FIX it.  I can immediately put you on to the aggrieved small business owner...or would you like to see it as front page news re the 100% Tariff GOUGING:  ZAPPING Small Businesses!

Thanks to all BFCSA Members who offered advice.......

Dear Denise

We have already contacted the Energy and Water Ombudsman but they can’t help us because we are being classified as a large customer although we are only a small business. We exceed the threshold by 12%. Is there any authority helping “large” customers?

Our electricity provider is AGL and the bills are currently frozen as we can’t pay them. The increase of costs is more than 100%!!! We are looking at nearly $18000 for 2 months whereas the same 2 months last year where around $8000. We didn’t get any notification and haven’t budgeted for this.

AGL and Energex blame each other for the change of tariff. We also already contacted our local MP but got the response due to too many requests they will take weeks to even be able to look at this case.

We have complete documentation for everything that has been happening and all communication.

Do you know which is the authority above the ombudsman?

[EDITOR: Yes The PREMIER...the buck stops there....Privatisation of Utilties has been a disaster!!]

Kind Regards,

Distressed Business Operator QLD

Yet another consumer falling through the gaps in our system.
Privatisation of government services is a failure.
It also resulted in reduction in true duty of care and customer service because that part of business doesn't pay enough to the quango.
Running a business assumes more than competency to follow the rules - that's what Government does better. Business is a completely different culture, mindset and capacity to Government, as are their workers.
One is not superior to the other. They are like apples and oranges: similar but really different.
As a first world country Australians are entitled to expect their Government to use their taxes efficiently and wisely to provide services like electricity and water.
Fewer overseas jaunts and other wasteful pursuits coupled with considerably more attention to domestic basic would have resulted in governments at all levels being able to afford to run this country according to their brief.
